It’s not Halloween yet, not even close. So WTF, Costco? Why are you already putting out Halloween candy packages and setting them up for it? Retails start earlier every year! Soon every BIG box shop will simply have a never-ending corner that simply spits out whatever holiday they are pumping. And they will invent twice as many so they can keep it fresh.

This image isn’t great. I haven’t even refined it. But it was just a quick bit of fun before I had to move on to other tasks.

It is not as bad as it looks

Got you face rearranged?

I have posted this image that I have reworked from back in 2011. The original image does not have Gerard’s face all Picaso-like. The newly revamped image is titled “Got your face rearranged?”.

I have posted it to my site without any warnings or trigger notices, so I have not posted it on social media. I will leave that to you if you would like. And please do share! Sharing helps me immensely. I have not covered this image on my site because it is artwork and doesn’t need to be covered. It is not that I don’t believe in taking the emotional responses of people with sensitivities to this type of image. Again it is for that reason I did not post it on social where many more people would see it. However, here in my space, where I control the environment, this image is welcome like all others. I love how it turned out.

This photograph is of my husband, Gerard. You can find it on my site here. In this image, he has just fallen and hit his head in the courtyard. Don’t cry for him Argentina. He was likely smoking weed or drinking. He was perfectly fine, and the bleeding stopped quickly with care. The image looks alarming, and that is why I like it. Life is not an entirely peaceful, joyful event. The reality of life is more beautiful than the false perception.

YouTube is screwing me out of streaming ad revenue. This video of a train derailment that happened in the Gastown Vancouver railyard.

The video above currently has 116,951 views. As a photographer and producer of stock content, that is a big deal. Getting paid for that is a big deal. At this level of views, I would have been getting paid at each 10,000 level of views. If they aren’t going to pay me, couldn’t they at least give me some free ad promotion on Google directed to my photography site? FYI: This video is for sale on Kian.photography

Living above this CP Rail West Coast Express train yard can be unpleasant a lot of the time. It is a boisterous and dirty environment. For that reason, most of my building has to have their windows closed. The trains are so loud that they fill your entire apartment and block out all other sounds. You can not hear the conversation, your tv, nothing. And we are five floors up. This noise pollution can happen at any time of the day. 4 am trains will arrive in the yard, and it becomes a 1/2 to 1-hour banging, backing up, banging some more headache.

This train derailment in Vancouver was the start of my day. I have grown used to the loud sounds coming from the yard, but this was otherworldly. The sound of metal ripping and crashing, being dragged. I quickly got my phone out and ran to the window to see what was causing the racket. It took a few seconds to realize that what I saw was a train being dragged across several tracks—a term called Splitting the Switch.

Spitting the switch happens with the switch springs into a different position when the coach is travelling on the straight track. The wheels of the front coach continue on the straight path as intended, but the rear wheels are not on the diverging track. This causes the rear cars to be pulled violently from the diverging track in a sideways motion and, in this case, crash into other parked trains.

What's normal

For a long time, I have been interested in street photography. One of the most exciting things is the jungle we live in, Vancouver. This place has many extremes, which are reflected on the streets, literally the streets. You can tell a good area from a bad one from the look or smell of the streets and sidewalks you are on. So, I am going to get into that and document some cool shit! I can’t wait.

Starting here with this photo I got today. What is Normal to You? I can do better than this photo, but I like what I see here. There is a foundation to start learning. The picture shows a guy on the right who is not concerned about the open drug use or users but does seem to have something else on his mind. The drug users are continuing to use their illicit street drugs openly. They don’t seem to mind the public exposure. The use of heroin or meth is entirely every day for them.

I will often go out to find images like this and others that will be grittier. I will look for the difficult. I am attracted to the dark. But, like Vancouver, I am also extreme. I love beautiful things like love, fashion, art, culture, travel & adventure. However, I also like the dark and decayed. I like the reality of a situation as well as the fantasy.

I am not against hard drug use. I will not be engaging in it, but a person’s choice is their choice, and they have the right to engage in that type of destructive behaviour if they want. We need to legalize all hard drugs and work to provide a significant and wide-ranging level of addiction services. We also need to promote personal responsibility where that is appropriate. I’m also not into the world is at fault, not me!

The last word I will say on all this tonight is that I understand the consequences of all this. My brother died in February of 2022 from an overdose. He was using alone in his SRO and was not found for ten days. From start to finish, his is a dark tale. I will right about him sometime later.
