Vancouver 2008 BG Triathlon World Championship,

You could be forgiven if for a moment you thought it was the year 2010 and Vancouver was hosting the Olympics. But then you would quickly remember that those are the winter games and this is June of 2008! No, it's not the Olympics, but close. It's the Vancouver BG Triathlon World Championship.

Vancouver and English Bay have been inundated with world-class athletes performing their feats of swimming, running, biking magic. All I can say is that even if you are not a fan of the triathlon, maybe because you have never watched (like myself), it is instantly mesmerizing. To watch athletes at this level performing in front of your eyes is a feast! This is a major event. All hotel rooms in the city are booked and English Bay is gated off and set up for bleachers and prime viewing. In true top athletic form these competitors have not had an easy time of Vancouver weather. The weather in Vancouver was glorious for the last several weeks with only a few days of rain and mostly sunny weather if a bit cloudy on some days. Even our winter was mild this year. Than the very first day the triathlon begins, cold days and rain! The temperature dropped at least a good 9 or 10C on the first day from what it was the week before. Apparently some of the competitors dropped out of the swim because it was just that cold. The weather has been challenging for them! It is set to improve by the weekend for the last couple of days.
